Habit

An impressive medium-size or large tree, 10-20 (24) m tall, 8-15 m wide; initially slenderly conical, soon with domed or broadly round crown, branches diagonally upright, twigs extended to loosely overhanging; fast-growing, the first 10-20 years 50-100 cm a year, then 15-20 cm

Fresh to damp, tolerates floods, on all nutritious, alkaline substrates, also clay; somewhat tolerant of salt

Tips

Due to its almost unlimited ability to regenerate, the white willow is often used as a pollarded willow. It is frequently found by ponds and on riverbanks or beaches, and is ideal for holding top soil with its fine root system
